          Early Life and Education

          King Norodom Sihanouk was born on October 31, 1922, in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

          He received his early education at a French college in the Cambodian capital.

          Reign as King

          Sihanouk was proclaimed King of Cambodia on September 24, 1993. During his reign, he played a pivotal role in the country's transition to democracy and reconciliation after the devastating Khmer Rouge regime.

          Sihanouk was a vocal opponent of the Khmer Rouge, a communist regime that committed genocide in Cambodia from 1975 to 1979.
